South Devons make 6,200gns at Stratford
THE champion at the South Devon Midland Club’s sale at Stratford sold for a sale topping 6,200gns
Sale leader was Lumbylaw Magnus 25, from Robert Lee, Alnwick, Northumberland.
This organic status bull is by Enterprise Condor, and out of Lumbylaw Mermaid 5, which carries Sexton bloodlines.
The bull sold to Mr and Mrs Mark Rushbrooke for their Brettles herd, Bewdley, Shropshire.
Two more bulls sold at 3,000gns. Firstly, W.J. Wright and Son, Tilton on the Hill, Leicestershire, sold Oxey Starbuster 3 to C.W. Jackson, Ely, Cambridgeshire. This two-year-old bull is by Brafferton Starbuster 3. Then J. White, Albany, Leicestershire, sold Edmeston Zodiac 2. This Stretchford Zodiac 5 son was bred by J.C. and S.M. Irish, Ivybridge, Devon, and sold to Robert Lee’s Lumbylaw herd.
Steady female demand
Demand for females was steady, with particular interest in consignments of stock from the Tregada herd in Cornwall and the Aldbourne Chase herd in Wiltshire.
The champion bulling heifer, Tregada Holly 40, from J.R. Bastard and Son, Launceston, Cornwall, topped the female trade at 2,850gns to I. Howard, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. This heifer is by Godworthy Excalibur 50 and out of Tregada Holly 31 with bloodlines from the Highgate herd.
The same buyer also paid 1,800gns for champion maiden heifer, Juniper Jarrah.
This Goffe Cave Persius 3 daughter was consigned by A. and P. Rickett, Daventry, Northamptonshire.
Another bulling heifer, Northwick Marigold 6, from Northwick Estate, Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire, made 2,800gns. The hammer fell to D. Holt, Oxfordshire.
