Scotch Mule ewes see £165 at Castle Douglas
AUCTIONEERS reported the ‘dearest trade ever recorded’ at the show and sale of Scotch Mule ewe lambs at Castle Douglas on Monday.
At the pre-sale show the judge, Mr Booth, Settle, awarded the championship ticket to W. Lockhart and Son, Culdoach, Kirkcudbright. Their pen of 40 went on to top the sale at £165 selling to the judge.
Reserve champion was a pen from J. and A. Brown, Tynron, Dumfriesshire, which made £144 to H.J. Paterson, East Dykes, Strathaven.
With a total clearance of 8,034 lambs, the sale averaged £101.95, which was almost £21 up on the year.
On the Saturday before an entry of 3,841 Scotch Mule gimmers met with good demand.
The champion pen was from Balker Farms, Stranraer, which went on to top the sale at £168 to John Jardine, Dalbeattie.
The overall sale average levelled at £130.09 for 3,841 compared to £118.19 for 3,087 last year.
