PRICES of 25,000gns and 17,000gns led a tremendous sale trade of maiden and yearling heifers from the noted Sarkley Limousin herd of Glyn Pennie and his sons – Chris and Nigel – Montgomery, Powys at Borderway Mart, Carlisle last Saturday.
Leading the sale at 25,000gns was the February 2008-born Sarkley Dalola.
This heifer is by the 37,000gns sire Fieldson Alfy and is out of Sarkley Ola, the Royal Welsh Show Champion in 2000.
Sarkley Ola is the granddam of Sarkley Bellola, which sold for 24,000gns to the Wilodge herd and subsequently bred the 30,000gns Wilodge Dallaglio sold at Carlisle in October this year.
Sarkley Dalola was knocked down to a new Limousin buyer Malcolm Reid, Kelso, Roxburghshire who bought the day’s top two prices.
Mr Reid, who will base a new Limousin pedigree herd around his purchases, runs the Kelso flock of around 150 pedigree Texel ewes.
His second purchase, at 17,000gns, was Sarkley Damarianne, a 15-month-old heifer.
Salomon daughter
Got by AI, she is a daughter of Salomon and is out of the Ronick Gains-sired Sarkley Marianne.
In addition to the top two lots, a further eight animals made 4,000gns or more.
The 25,000gns paid is the top price in 2009 for a Limousin female to date.
At 8,000gns was the Rocky-sired Sarkley Dominica. Born in June 2008, Sarkley Dominica is out of the Uplands Batman-sired Sarkley Oneycomb. Purchaser for his Garyvaughan pedigree herd of 85 breeding females was C.V. Lewis and Sons, Welshpool, Powys.
Later in the day, Mr Lewis also purchased the Rocky-sired Sarkley Daroux, April 2008-born, for 3,500gns.
The Rodgers Family, Dromara, Co. Down, purchased Sarkley Divine for 7,000gns. This June 2008-born heifer was another by Salomon and is out of the Haltcliffe Egidius-sired Sarkley Vine.
The first lot in the ring, Sarkley Carola, sold for 6,000gns to pedigree breeders Messrs Bowe, Wigton, Cumbria, for their Wiggonby pedigree herd.
This November 2007-born heifer is by Ronick Hawk.
Undisclosed buyer
Sarkley Davorella, an April 2008-born heifer made 5,500gns selling to an undisclosed buyer.
This animal is by the Balnacraig Supreme son Homebyres Visitor and is out of Sarkley Vorella.
At 5,000gns was Sarkley Didi, an April 2008-born calf by the 24,000gns Glenrock Ventura.
This heifer also went to an undisclosed buyer.
Realising 4,500gns was Sarkley Dream going to Mr and Mrs D. Hill, Appleby, Cumbria.
Dream is an April 2008-born heifer by the Cloughhead Jurassic son, Saunders Stallone.
