Round up of UK livestock sales - January 22
Bakewell
THE 139 OTM cattle on offer at Bakewell on Monday met with a ‘superb trade’ and an overall average of 97.1p/kg was achieved. Top price per kg was 182p for a 600kg British Blue cross and top price per head was £1,288 for a Blonde cross weighing 800kg.
Dingwall
OLD season lambs sold to 197p/kg for 37kg Texel crosses on Monday and the 987 head entry levelled out at 177.8p/kg. A top gross of £84 was achieved twice for 48.5kg crosses.
Cockermouth
MITCHELL’S opening sale of 2010 for store and breeding stock saw prices reach
£1,058 for a Charolais steer from Messrs Trafford, Peterhouse. Messrs Trafford also sold the top priced heifer at £902. A small entry of feeding bulls were much in demand, selling to £732.
Stratford
MEDIUM weight old season lambs sold to 182p/kg on Tuesday and averaged 171.7p/kg. Heavy weights peaked at 166p/kg and standards at 177.5p/kg.
Welshpool
A top of £126 per head and an average of £63.10 was achieved for cull ewes at Welshpool on Monday. Prime hoggets sold to 221p/kg for standard weights and these levelled at 191p/kg.
