Prize-winning steer sells to judge for £1,380
AN entry of 1,900 cattle were forward last week at Thainstone for the mart’s 20th anniversary show and sale.
The show and sale event, which had been postponed by a week due to the weather, was won by Andrew Anderson,
Elgin, with a 572kg Limousin cross steer. The prize-winner went on to sell for £1,380 to the judge, Tom Stevenson, Bankfoot, Perth.
The reserve also came from Mr Anderson and was a 698kg British Blue cross heifer, which sold for £1,450, again to the judge.
A total of 1,099 steers were sold, averaging 183.3p/kg, and selling to 253.2p/kg and £1,265 gross. The 762 heifers on offer averaged 174.6p/kg and sold to 259.3p/kg and £1,400 gross. The 39 bulls averaged 181.9p and sold to 220.1p/kg and £1,060 gross. Five young calves averaged £145 and sold to £185 gross.
