New market on Exmoor
THE new facilities at Cutcombe market in Exmoor have now opened, with the first sale of store cattle taking place on Wednesday, September 8.
The Exmoor Society, a conservation charity, said it ‘welcomed’ the opening of the new livestock market and hoped the facilities would help revitalise the fortunes of hill farming.
Rachel Thomas, chairman of the Society said: “Cutcombe Market gives a major boost to the confidence of local farmers.
“It goes against those who argued that the future for livestock markets is only to be found in the large super ones being developed regionally. Cutcombe Market deserves every success.”
