New buyers keep prices high at Beeston’s mid month dairy sale
LAST week’s mid-month sale of pedigree and commercial dairy cattle at Beeston saw an entry in excess of 150 but smaller than has been seen over the last 18 months.
A number of new buyers around the ring ensured trade was dearer on the month, with a top price of £2,350 achieved. This was for a non-pedigree heifer from E.V. and B. Boughey, Tarporley, Cheshire, selling to Wilmot Blockley, Chester.
A pedigree heifer, Swaffham Garrison Beatrice 2, from Jack and Barclay Taylor, Myddle, Shrewsbury, sold for £2,320 to Bob Moss, Onneley, Crewe.
At £2,300, a non-pedigree daughter of Lucente out of a Swedish Red cross dam from David Ishmael, Wigan, sold to P. and A. Howard, Winsford, Cheshire.
Another pedigree heifer from the Taylors sold for £2,280 to Wilmot Blockley, and at £2,250, the Howards secured Poringland Graceful 30 from C.R. Cawston, Beccles, Suffolk.
Top price cow was £1,980 for Riverdane Elegant from George Sanderson and Family, Preston. Their Sandley Present 66 sold to Messrs Gethin, Caersws.
Averages: 133 cows and milking heifers, £1,393.23; 8 served heifers, £1,486.25; 2 maiden heifers, £580; 3 heifer calves, £396; 1 Hereford bull, £1,190; 1 Limousin bull, £1,920.
