New Blue Faced Leicester female record set at Hawes
A new female record was set at the Blue Faced Leicester show and sale at Hawes on Saturday when a gimmer hogg sold for £11,000.
The sale topper and show champion was from the Hewgill flock of the Lord family, Stainmore, Kirkby Stephen.
A daughter of B41 Hewgill and out of a ewe by Z14 Hewgill, it was knocked down the Northern Ireland pairing of Robert Loughridge, Orravale and Seamus Laverty, Orraview.
The Lords also had the next two top prices with more daughters of B41 Hewgill. The first sold for £7,500 to Andrew Cambell, Drimsynie, and the other to S. Hallam of the Grange Head flock for £5,400. Paul Fairburn, Thornton Steward, Ripon, sold his pen leader, an embryo lamb, by Z8 Thirwell, for £3,400 to H. Harvey and Son, Seapalling, Norwich.
James Porter of the Riddings flock, Richmond, North Yorkshire sold the second placed gimmer hogg, a daughter of the £14,000 C3 Midlock, for £3,200, to Scottish breeder, Craig Thornborrow, Dawyck.
The first prize winning gimmer shearling from the Smearsett flock of W.A. and A. Booth, Austwick, Lancaster, by V33 Lunesdale and carrying triplets to D15 Smearsett, a son of Z4 Hundith, sold to the Emmots flock of Alan Pye, Lancaster, for £5,000.
Overall, £1425 (up £192 on 2011); gimmer hoggs, £1,528; gimmer shearlings, £1,780; ewes, £507.
