More than 5,000 sheep at Exeter event
THE annual show and sale of breeding ewes and rams at Exeter livestock centre attracted an entry of 5,270 sheep, which was 1,564 up on last year.
All sections saw a continued strong trade with overall averages for females up £2 on the year.
The 4,356 shearling ewes met a 92 per cent clearance selling to £135 for Suffolk cross Mules, from A. and L. Gillard, Tedburn St Mary. Shearling ewes averaged £109.05, up £1.50.
Bidding peak
An entry of 827 ewes and ewe lambs sold to a 97 per cent clearance and bidding peaked at £130 for 50 Suffolk cross Mules from G. Mcleod, Swimbridge.
There were fewer rams (87) sold compared to last year with trade fast for all types.
An average of £358.70 per head was realised the Suffolk shearling leading the way at £500.
