Lakeland Holsteins sell to 3,300gns top for champion

THE first Border and Lakeland Holstein Club show and sale of the year saw cows and heifers average £2,230 with a top price of 3,300gns for the overall champion.

The show, at Borderway Mart, was judged by club president Mr Hutchinson, from the Bowberhill herd, Appleby, and he chose Espland Pagewire Naomi from D.I. and F.M. Cannon, Appleby, as his champion. This Braedale Pagewire daughter sold for 3,300gns to Messrs H. Thompson, Egremont.

In reserve was Warnelview Loader Debby, consigned by the Wilson family, Carlisle. This daughter of Cogent Loader was bred from two VG87 dams and sold for 2,400gns to Messrs W. McWhirter and Co, Ayrshire.

Goldwyn son

Warnelview Holsteins, Thursby, Carlisle, sold a daughter of their Goldwyn son Warnelview Bingo for 2,900gns with the heifer joining Messrs H. Thompson, Egremont.

R-E-W Buckeye-sired the next highest price, this time from Skirwith Hall Farms, Penrith. Bred from a line of high component dams, she sold to N. and S.J. Sanderson, Lanercost, at 2,600gns.

A daughter of Wilcoxview Jasper from Ruth Watson’s Lillyhall herd, Cockermouth, sold for 2,450gn to the Printshop herd of Gaston and John Wallace, Templepatrick, Northern Ireland.

Averages: 2 cows in-milk, £1,365; 28 heifers in-milk, £2,292.75.
