Junior bull champion tops Dungannon trade
HEREFORD bulls sold to a top price of 3,800gns and averaged £2,300 for 20 sold at the breed society sale in Dungannon.
The top price was paid for junior bull champion Solpoll 1 Handsome, from J. and W. McMordie, Ballygowan, Co Down, by NCBC for their stud at Enfield, Co Meath.
Bred by W.J. Hutchings, West Sussex, this young bull has impressive EBV’s including a Calving Ease Direct value in the top one per cent for the breed.
The supreme champion was Graceland 1 Giles, from Robin Irvine, Whitecross, Co Armagh, and is a first son of current reserve Northern Ireland Bull of the Year, Greenyards 1 Dougie. It sold to dairy farmer, Peter Flack at £2,950.
Reserve supreme and senior male champion was another from J. and W. McMordie, Solpoll 1 General, which sold at £2,800 to Tony McCarthy.
