Gimmer shearling averages up at Skipton
AN overall average of £134.58 per head - an increase of £32.35 on 2009 - was achieved for the 3,388-strong entry at the annual show and sale of gimmer shearlings at Skipton Auction Mart.
A total of 19 pens of 10 Mule shearling gimmers faced judges Angus Dean, Threshfield, and Martin Jennings, Cowling. The championship went to David Coates, Coniston Cold, and these went on to sell for the top price of £198 per head to James Bracewell, Burnley.
The 2,448 Mules forward averaged £137.23 each.
Masham gimmer shearlings sold to £158 for entries from Mike Allen, Saltburn, and selling to Michael and David Wilson, Beckwithshaw. A total of 183 Mashams averaged £122.82.
Continental class prices peaked
at £182 per head for a pen of shearlings from Bob Newby, of Wetherby.
The 697 Texel and Continental-cross shearlings averaged £128.1.
