Doodlebug soars to 7,800gns at Charolais fixture

Those figures were up on the year by an average £249 and 12 entries sold.

Sale leader at 7,800gns was Gwenog Doodlebug, a 20-month-old, first class prize winner. Bred and exhibited by father and son team, John and Peter Howells, Llanybrydder, Ceredigion, he was out of a Derryharney Outstanding-sired home-bred cow and by the 16,000gns Blelack Tycoon. Doodlebug went to join Alun Williams’ 100-cow suckler herd at Aberdaron, Pwllheli.

The Howells’ other sale entry, Gwenog Diamond, sold for 5,800gns to A.L. Roberts, Bala.

This 17-month-old was the same way bred to Doodlebug and earlier on had collected the reserve championship.

Caylers Dominant from David and Louise Barker, Nuthampstead, Royston, took the overall championship. This 18-month-old bull is by Fairway Soprano, which has sons sell up to 30,000gns. It was knocked down sold for 5,600gns to R.P. Morgan and Son, Dutlas, Knighton.

Home-bred

Later on, the Barkers sold Caylers Dominic, a 16-month-old, at 6,500gns to Tynybryn Farms, Tregynon, Newtown. Dominic is a 16-month-old by the home-bred Caylers Bombadier. Their third and final entry, Caylers Dexter, another 16-month-old, this time by Fairway Soprano, made 4,200gns to T.L. Morris, Knighton.

At 5,2000gns was Midas Dave from Roger Coppinger and his son, Drew, Edstaton, Wem, selling to H. and B. Powell, Rhayader. This 18-month-old is a son of Oldstone Egbert.

Two entries shared a 5,000gns price tag. First to go was Esgob Defender, an 18-month-old by Thrunton Virginian from Gareth Jones, Cwmtirmynach, Bala. He was knocked down to A.L. Jones, Cwymtirmynach, Bala.

The second 5,000gns bid was made late in the day by A.G. Jones, Llangwm, Corwen, for Brynffanigl Dynamo, a 16-month-old by the 17,000gns Alsnow Almighty, bred by Bob Roberts and his son, Rhion, Abergele.

Averages: 52 bulls, £3,360.58.
