Deehaven Holstein dispersal peaks at 3,500gns
THE re-scheduled final sale to disperse the Deehaven herd of Holsteins for Sam Noble, South Wirral, Cheshire, saw prices peaking at 3,500gns.
Top seller was Deehaven Amery Erland Red, a red in-calf heifer. The buyer was D. Davies, Llandysul, Ceredigion, who purchased four heifers for his Dafron herd.
Her dam, a red Talent heifer, made 4,400gns in June last year when the milking portion of the herd was sold.
The 19 milking heifers on offer at the beginning of the sale attracted strong bidding peaking at 3,000gns for a Hartline Tom daughter from the Erland family.
It was knocked down to G.A.G. Evans, Welshpool, who bought another eight lots for his Trawscoed herd.
Calves at foot
Heifer calves at foot made 1,000gns or more on three occasions for calves barely two months old.
A yearling calf, Deehaven Goldwyn Milly, out of an EX93 Comestar Leader sold to Lewis Pearson, West Wales for 3,200gns.
Another Milly, bred from eight generations of VG/EX cows, fetched 3,100gns as an in-calf heifer, selling to Stuart Roberts of the Townhouse herd, Tarporley, Cheshire.
Main buyers on the day were David and James Manning, Hereford, who secured 28 head for their Newcross herd.
