British Blues bulls sell to 7,000gns at Chelford

BRITISH BLUE bulls sold to 7,000gns at the breed society’s national show and sale at Chelford last week. Sale leader was Dinmore Giorgio, from Paul Dawes, Dinmore, Herefordshire. This June 2011-born white son of Immense ET De Beauraing, out of  Dafydd D’Ochain sired Lukeroyal Christabel,  was knocked down to Steve Buckley, Buxton, Derbyshire.

The pre-sale show was judged by Brian Griffiths, Kerry, Powys, who chose as his champion, Pendle Golioth, the black and white April 2011-born son of Greystone Bonzer, out of Pendle Blueberry, from the Hartley family, Nelson, Lancashire and then went on to buy him for 6,700gns.

The Phillips family, Reading, Berkshire sold Drift Graham, by Bluegrass Cyclone, out of the Raciste sired Gregmaur Benita, for 6,600gns to G. and A. Orrells, Newton, Powys. The Belfield family, Buxton, Derbyshire sold Boothlaw General, by Tamhorn Sumo, for 6,450gns to C. I. Thomas, Montgomery, Powys. August 2011-born, Dinmore Ghost, a full brother to Dinmore Giorgio, and again from Mr Dawes, led junior bull class and sold for 4,700gns to S. and A. Taylor, Huddersfield. 

The female trade was led by the pre-sale show champion, Graymar Glamorous, an October 2011-born heifer from Matthew Jones, Shrewsbury. This daughter of Graphite de Dessous La Ville, out of the Colibri sired Bringlee Beth  sold to Messrs Wright, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, for 5,300gns.

The reserve female champion came from the Tanat Herd of Wyn Jones, Oswestry.  Tanat Gorgeous, a May 2011 born daughter of Bringlee Blackstar, out of the Immense sired Whiterock Diamond made 4,000gns to Sam Madeley, Ross on Wye.

Best of the served heifers came from Pasturefields Livestock, Stafford, when Boomer Enticement, a January 2009-born daughter of Dafydd D’Ochain, out of the show cow Cerise 2120 Neuve Cour,  and sold six months in-calf to Imperial de L’Ecluse, made 3,100gns  to Messrs Madders and Johnson, Stafford.  

In the commercial section the champion was a pure Blue heifer from Brian Griffiths, Penygelly, which sold to Messrs Coulson, Market Rasen for £1,540.

Leading the trade for steers was a red bullock from J.M. and A.M. Lewis, Llanwrda, Carmarthenshire, which sold for £1,690 to L. Poldrill, Henge, Derby. Also selling for £1,540 was a steer John and Denise Davies, Rugby, which was snapped up by Victoria Bowring, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. 


43 pedigree bulls, £3883.70; 11 pedigree females, £3780; 32 crossbred steers, £1184; 31 crossbred heifers, £1150.
