Brecon’s beacon hits £1,522 high
BEFORE Christmas, the Wales and Borders Beltex Society held a sale of females at Brecon market where prices peaked at £1,522.
The top price, and supreme champion, was Whatmore Mouse - a daughter of Black Mountain Haymaker, in-lamb to Whatmore Kosher. Consigned by S. Morris, Hay-on-Wye, Herefordshire, it sold to S. Wood, Aberdeen.
A ewe from the same home, Whatmore Mabler – again by Haymaker – made £546.
Hospital ward joy
The older ewes topped at £441 and ewe lambs topped at £525 for a lamb from R. Jenkins Hughes, Pantgwyn, which was sold in aid of epilepsy sufferers and the Children’s Ward at Aberystwyth Hospital and purchased by farming neighbours around Cwmystwyth.
They then re-donated the sheep to be sold again with proceeds once again going to the hospital. A total of £850 was raised.
Other ewe lambs reached £262 and £220 for entries from I.T. Lewis, Tegfan.
