Blacksdown Rambo tops Dungannon Texel sale

BIDDING peaked at 17,000gns at the Northern Ireland premier show and sale of Texels at Dungannon.

Earning the top call was the ram lamb, Blacksdown Rambo, from James Wilson, Crumlin, Co Antrim. Sired by Millcomb Powerhouse, a Brague Nixon son, this ram is out of a Mellorvale Masterpiece daughter. It sold to Cahir McAuley for the Larkhill flock, Co Antrim.

At 9,500gns was Ballynahone Rambo from R. Henderson, Magherafelt, Co Londonderry, and selling to Scottish breeders - Keith Jamieson (Annan) and Graham Black (Craighouse). This one is by the 5,200gns Mullan Playboy and out of a Douganhill McFly-bred dam.

Making 6,400gns was Heathmount Rhinestone from the McKinney Brothers, Maghera, Co Londonderry.

This Kelso Oxygene son sold to James and Austin Morgan for their Drummillar flock, Newry, Co Down.

The champion lamb, Kerryhill Renegade, from James Adams, Ballymena, Co Antrim, made 3,200gns. This Brague Noxon son sold to W. McCaffrey for the Scholars flock, Cheshire.

A total of 31 lambs made 1,000gns or more.

Gimmers

In the gimmer section, top was 4,600gns for the reserve female champion, an ET daughter of Brague Nixon, from the Hanthorn family’s Mullan flock, Tynan, Co Armargh.

Out of a Tophill Joe dam it sold to Malcolm Reid’s Kelso flock, Roxburghshire.

The female champion, a Cambwell OBE daughter, from Kenneth Wilson, Ballymena, realised 1,550gns selling to Ian Graham’s Killochries flock, Renfrew. The same buyer also paid 1,300gns for a gimmer by Cherryvale Nijinsky from Emma, Megan and Robert Shaw’s Mounthill flock, Larne, Co Antrim.

Shearling rams

Shearling rams sold to 1,300gns twice. The first was Heathmount Powerpack, a Fairmount Napoleon son, from the McKinney Brothers. The other was a Garngour Nobleman son, Farmhill Pirot, from Brian Williamson, Omagh.

Averages: 76 gimmers, £536 (+£6 on 2009 sale); 177 ram lambs, £792 (+£55); 94 shearling rams, £585 (+£23).
