A look around the marts for the week ending September 3.
LANCASTER
MULE gimmer shearlings were in demand at Lancaster auction mart’s show and sale of breeding ewes, gimmer shearlings and rams last week.
Prices for Mule shearling gimmers peaked at £185 and an average of £130.50, an increase of £28.50, was realised.
Breeding ewes sold to £130 and averaged £101, which was a £26 up on the year, while rams sold to £880.
SHREWSBURY
TOP price heifer at last week’s dairy sale sold for £2,300. This was Burnbrae Shottle Lady, from D.J.D. and J.B. Taylor, Shrewsbury.
Next best was an unregistered, freshly-calved heifer from D.B. Jones, Bangor-on-Dee, which sold at £2,020.
NSA RAM SALE
EUROPE’S biggest ram sale at the Royal Welsh Showground on September 20, and jointly sponsored by Farmers Guardian, has attracted an 5,635 entry of - 600 up on 12 months ago.
Following on from last year’s trial run of the ‘tup taxi’ service, more than 25 bikes with trailers will be on hand at the NSA Wales and Border Ram Sale to ferry purchases to buyers’ vehicles.
