Latest round-up from auction markets across the country.
New position
North West Auctions has appointed Adam Day as managing director. Mr Day will take up the position next month and comes from Mitchell’s Auction Company at Cockermouth, where he has managed the livestock market from more than 15 years.
Bentham
Some 2,027 cast ewes on offer at Bentham last week made it the largest entry seen there this year. The 12 ringside buyers ensured trade was brisk for all classes of ewes, particularly plainer ones. Horned ewes topped at £69, Mule ewes £85 for a pen of nine, Suffolk ewes sold to £90, Bluefaced Leicesters £93.50 and continentals £103.
Skipton
The championship at the monthly show and sale of rearing calves at Skipton went to John Dinsdale, Barnoldswick, with a British Blue cross bull calf. The calf, by a British Blue bull out of a Friesian cow, sold for £325 to Peter Lambert, Bedale. Top price, at £348, was a British Blue-cross bull calf from Shaun Sowray, Bishop Thornton, Harrogate.
Sedgemoor
The 966 lambs on offer sold to a top price of 181p/kg and £79.50 per head. The average was 155.19p/kg, with the best generally selling above 165p/kg.
