£2,600 secures first prize Beltex for Frankland Farm
A bid of £2,600 from Frankland Farms, Settle, Yorkshire, secured the purchase of the first prize Beltex ram at Bentham Auction’s ‘ram-page’ sale last Saturday.
The breeder was Dan Towers, Wray, who is aged 18 and this year won the title of stockman of the year in the Bishop Burton College stockmanship competition.
The ram, Curwen Norman, was sired by Woody’s Luke, which was purchased at the 2008 Scottish Premier sale from Aberdeenshire breeder Stuart Wood. It is out of a home-bred ewe sired by Contane Hadden.
The ram’s full brother sold for £1,000 to the judge David Cornthwaite, Lockerbie.
Suffolk rams topped at £860, Texels at £1,000 and Charollais at £620.
Auctioneers: Richard Turner and Son.
