Welsh search for leading suckler herd

THE search is on for the leading suckler herd in Wales.

All suckler producers from Holyhead to Haverfordwest using a registered performance recorded Charolais sire will be eligible to enter the new award with £1,500 at stake launched by the British Charolais Cattle Society’s Welsh Region and Hybu Cig Cymru at the Royal Welsh Show.

Herd entries will be judged on management, health status and marketing, and in particular the performance of their Charolais-sired calves.

Entries close on August 16 and judging will take place in September by SAC’s beef specialist, Ian Pritchard.

The awards will be officially presented to the four finalists at the Welsh Winter Fair staged at Builth Wells in December and comprise a £500 cash prize to the winner and a British Charolais Cattle Society bull purchase vouchers worth £250 to each finalist.
