Welsh Commons Forum: Assembly recognisers commoners value
WELSH Assembly Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones said she fully recognised the importance of common land which was highly valued for its agriculture, recreation, landscape, and nature conservation.
“The Assembly supports a variety of management agreements on common land through our existing agri-environment schemes and while Tir Gofal covers about 14,000 hectares, I recognise there is considerable room for improvement and expansion.
“Substantial areas of common land currently sit outside our sustainable land management schemes. Glastir will expand the biodiversity benefits while recognising the importance of common land and benefits effective land management can bring.”
