THE top price of the week came on Wednesday, the final day of the bull sales, when the Charolais bull, Maerdy Ignition, sold for 22,000gns.

LEADING the Beef Shorthorn trade at Stirling at 6,500gns was the roan August 2012-born bull, Chapelton Festival, from Donald Biggar, Castle Douglas. By Glenisla Banqo out of Chapelton Duchess, it sold to D. Calder, Aberfeldy.

YORKSHIRE-based judge David Booth said the quality of Holstein calves on the second day of the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show had completely blown him away, and his champion was one which ‘oozed class, style and was correct in every way’.

Welsh Dairy Show: Outstanding contribution award handed to North Wales farmer

15 October 2014

NORTH Wales farmer Rhisiart Tomos Lewis, who runs a herd of 140 dairy cows with home-bred dairy heifers near Llangybi, Gwynedd, was presented with the Farmers Union of Wales and HSBC award for a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the Welsh dairy industry.
