THE last Charolais bull sale of the season peaked at 6,000gns at Carlisle on for the day’s supreme champion, Bassett Icon, a 20-month-old by Harestone Dominator and out of a homebred dam from Jean Atkinson, Malton. The buyer was J.S. Gargett, Barnard Castle.

At the Multi Breed Calf Show on Newark showground the overall and pedigree champion was Chalford Manor Jazzy, a British Blue heifer, by Solway View Firecracker, bred and exhibited by D. Plestead, Oxfordshire. Torrington Jaguar from Louise Todd, Market Rasen, was reserve pedigree champion.
Beef South West, held at Westpoint, Exeter, last week included a primestock show and a speakers corner. Jane Brown reports on some of the action.
