THE number of milk producers in England and Wales is six per cent lower than a year ago.The Milk Development Council said the August figure of 12,739 was 69 less than the previous month and 816 (6 per cent) down on August 2006.On a regional basis, the North West remains as the region with most producers, followed by Wales and the North. The East, not surprisingly, has the least number of producers at 194.
