Rural broadband £3m upgrade

A NEW Government initiative hopes to appease Scottish rural dwellers’ frustrations over broadband.

Around 50 small BT telephone exchanges serving remote and rural areas in Scotland will receive a £3m upgrade to improve access to broadband.

BT recently announced it had successfully trialled new technology at Dingwall, Inverness and Culloden exchanges, which had connected broadband to lines up to seven miles from the exchanges - more than double the current three-mile reach for broadband.
