Royal Welsh: Assembly launches new initiative to boost producers' sales
A raft of initiatives aimed at helping primary producers develop robust sales outlets were announced at the Royal Welsh Show today (Tuesday, July 21 ) by Welsh Assembly Rural Affairs Minister, Elin Jones.
First came the ‘ultimate guide’ to Welsh food and drink– a new 96-page directory compiled by the Assembly and containing listings for more than 500 food and drink producers, as well as information on farmers markets, food festivals, and business support organisations.
“This new directory is the most comprehensive guide ever produced by the Assembly and is the ultimate guide for anyone interested in buying or supplying Welsh food and drink,” said the Minister.
She also announced the creation of an £800,000 campaign to help food and drink producers sell direct to the public and promote the availability of local produce.
The ‘Gwir Flas gan Wir Bobl ‘Real Food from Real People’ campaign – which will run over two years – aims to help producers market their goods, and at the same time raise consumer awareness of enterprises such as farm shops, farmers markets, and businesses which sell their produce via the internet.
More than 100 small food and drink producers in South Wales are also set to benefit from an Assembly-inspired Sustainable Supply Chain initiative.
The 18-month pilot scheme is aimed at helping producers improve trading links between fellow production groups, processors and retailers.

I’m fed up with talking about the weather, but I can console myself with the fact we have grabbed every opportunity so far and progress is not too bad.
