Remote service checks on more refined Astronaut

THE Astronaut A3 Next is the latest robotic milking unit from Lely. It has a number of improvements over the A3, including a telemetry servicing system and improved maintenance schedules, which are linked to number of milkings rather than a period of time.

The concentrate feeding system is now constructed from stainless steel rather than plastic and is suspended to make cleaning easier. The handling gates are also made from heavier-gauge steel and the removable floor is now manufactured from a composite material to improve servicing.

On the milking side, the MQC (milk quality sensor) is incorporated into the robotic arm so it can get a more accrue temperature reading. This new MQC also uses a modular design, so each of the cow's teats is looked after by an individual sensor block.

To make the machine narrower and improve servicing, the milk jar has been moved and the milk separation buckets can be positioned up to 5m away from the robot, such as in a calving shed.

The T4C screen is now located on the unit and users can compare performance with other farmers online.

Andy Stewart of Lely says the A3 Next will be competitively priced.
