'Illegal pig farming' caught on film
ILLEGAL methods are ‘often used’ to produce the 1.3 million tonnes of pig meat consumed annually in the UK, according to animal welfare campaigner Tracy Worcester.
Ms Worcester said EU laws to maintain pig comfort and prohibit tail docking were being broken every day in factory farms that supplied the UK market.
She revealed her evidence to MPs, farm leaders and NGOs in her shocking film, Pig Business, in the Palace of Westminster last night (Wednesday, January 27).
Ms Worcester said schools, prisons and hospitals were unknowingly serving illegally produced pork instead of sourcing from the UK where animal standards are one of the highest in the EU.
“To avoid torturing pigs before we eat them, I urge everyone to use their consumer power to buy British,” she said.

I’m fed up with talking about the weather, but I can console myself with the fact we have grabbed every opportunity so far and progress is not too bad.

Imagine.... the NFU calling every farmer went to the supermarket with labels "may contain abused animals" and stuck them on the pork from country's - this direct labelling campaign would at least alert consumers, creat huge publicity and make it impossible to sell this stuff in the Uk... time to take a lesson from the french !
