Tina Cook crowned European eventing champion
TINA Cook, riding Miner’s Frolic took the individual gold medal at the HSBC FEI European Eventing championships in Fontainbeau, France and also led the British team to a gold medal.
The individual silver medal went to Britain’s Piggy French, riding Some Day Soon.
After the cross country Tina led the field by 8.6 penalties, but a fence down and four time penalties in the show jumping cut this to just 0.6 ahead of her compatriot. Piggy jumped one of only two clear rounds to rise from fourth position overnight.
Michael Jung took the individual bronze medal for Germany, on La Biosthetique-Sam FBW, ahead of William Fox-Pitt on Idalgo in fourth place.
It was the eighth consecutive time that Britain has won the European gold medal. They beat the Italians by 92.7 penalities, with Belgium in bronze medal position.
