Countryfile star turns into 'Dairy Fairy'
COUNTRYFILE star Julia Bradbury dressed up as a Dairy Fairy and waved her magic wand to promote the dairy industry at the launch of a nationwide Smile for Dairy Campaign this week.
The BBC presenter launched the campaign as part of National Dairy Week (February 22-28) to highlight the hard work of dairy farmers and processors up and down the country.
Britons are hugely reliant on diary products – 97 per cent of UK households consume dairy products and 86 per cent consume dairy products every day.
But Ms Bradbury said dairy farmers were often forgotten about.
“Just about every household in Britain uses milk, cheese, yogurt and we should be proud that we produce such natural and nutritious foods.
“It’s something many of us perhaps take for granted,” she said.
The Smile for Dairy Campaign, which has been launched by educational body The Dairy Council, urges people across Britain to submit smiley pictures to smile@smilefordairy.com to demonstrate the public’s love of dairy products.
Sandy Wilkie, chairman of The Dairy Council, said: “National Dairy Week is a time for us all to remember just how much dairy is part of our lives.
“British dairy products are among the nation’s favourite foods and something to celebrate.”
Jim Begg, Dairy UK director general said Britain’s farmers and processors needed more recognition.
“It’s been especially tough this winter with the widespread snow and ice, but that hasn’t stopped the nation getting its hands on the milk, cheese, yogurt and other dairy foods that we all take for granted.
“This helps support an industry worth more than £8bn per year and employing 80,000 people directly,” he said.
