BEEF and Lamb New Zealand’s Economic Service says after three consecutive years of dramatic decline, there has been a 2.5 per cent increase in total sheep numbers.
The total now stands at 33.20 million head – driven by the retention of hoggets.
This is up 10.4 per cent on the previous year on both breeding and finishing farms.
