    DUE to Moredun’s expertise in orf, it has become heavily involved in a similar disease in squirrels.Dr Colin McInnes said work done by Moredun had increased understanding of how grey squirrels had exposed the native red squirrel to squirrelpox, which is similar in appearance to orf in sheep. He said the disease killed red squirrels very quickly, but the discovery of eight red squirrels with natural immunity (over a period of 10 years) gave some hope a vaccine could be developed.
