Improving brown rust control
EPOXICONAZOLE (Opus) continues to give better control of brown rust than prothioconazole (Proline) in HGCA fungicide trials. However the addition of the strobilurin fluoxastrobin to both triazoles (in Firefly and Fandango) has given additional control.
TAG research & development director Stuart Knight, told the workshop the yellow rust protection provided by these two leading triazoles is often similar.
Control differences could, however, be significant where disease is very active. The addition of boscalid (in Tracker) or fluoxastrobin improves yellow rust control compared to the triazole alone.
Proline shows useful mildew activity but Opus is less effective against mildew.

We are urgently developing research requirements with other European laboratories to make sure we understand and the disease (Schmallenberg) better.
