Robert Harrison, 32, Greystone Farm, Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire
EXPANSION and re-investment have been the main developments in Rob Harrison’s dairy business over the last five years.
Rob bought his parents out of the business 18 months ago and he pays them rent for the land and a wage in exchange for help on the farm.
The herd has doubled in size and now stands at 200 spring calving, cross-bred dairy cows, which Rob says suit a grass-based system.
He is also chairman of the NFU’s Next Generation Dairy Board.
Dairy Herd performance to March 2009:
- Herd size: 175
- Yield per cow (l): 5,778
- Feed rate per litre (kg/l): 0.22
- Margin over purchased feed per cow (£): 1,237
- Margin over purchased feed per litre (p): 21.41
