Top bid of 2,900gns for unregistered dog
WEST Country buyers were out in strength at the spring sale of working sheepdogs at Sennybridge, competing with Welsh farmers for the best farm dogs.
The top price dog at 2,900gns, was secured by J.R. Bryant, who farms 500 ewes on the north coast of Devon. This 18-month-old unregistered dog came from 83-year-old John Davies, Heol Senni, Brecon, who sold dogs at the first ever sale at Sennybridge in 1976.
David Connick, a shepherd at the Cnewr Estate, continued the local success. His two-year-old registered bitch by David Howells Rock, and a granddaughter of Millichap’s Ben, eventually sold for 2,400gns to John Roberts of Betws y Coed.
Gareth Davies of Groeslan, Gwynedd sold a quality 21-month-old registered trial bitch at 2,350gns to T. D. Morris, Felindre, Swansea.
Averages: 19 trained dogs, £1,323; 9 untrained and pups, £214. Kelpe bitch with two Pups, £1,000.
Auctioneers: Clee Tompkinson Francis.
