Sunshine greets a class field in Pembrokeshire
THE decision to postpone the Pembrokeshire Fundraising Open National trial the previous week paid off as the event was held in glorious sunshine, although wet patches meant the course was run diagonally across the field.
The outrun was uphill and 250 yards in length, the left-handed drives totalled 300 yards. This was maintained for the afternoon session but the shedding element was dropped.
The Welsh/Cheviot yearling ewes were touchy to say the least, some packets moving from the lift before being covered by the dog, and they could so easily slip past the gates without warning.
Favoured side
They were, however, consistent throughout the day. There was no favoured side for the outrun. Kevin Evans with Roy, and Jeff Hudd with Fleece, again made their mark, as they did in the previous trial here.
While older, more experienced dogs won in both sessions, some of the new crop of Nursery dogs gave a good account of themselves, with novice handler, Lisa Bassett, a local girl, doing well in the afternoon.
The relatively high standard of competition bodes well for the coming season.
