Shepherd receives RWAS award
THE Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s special prize – the £2,000 Dr Emrys Evans Award - has been won this year by Breconshire’s Geraint Davies, of Dan yr Eglwys, Garthbrengy, near Brecon.
The sought-after annual award goes to a person who has made an exceptional contribution to rural skills.
The theme chosen this year was shepherding skills and the winner was one of 11 nominated competitors from across Wales.
They were assessed for their skills in animal husbandry, veterinary record keeping, shearing ability, working with sheepdogs and preparing sheep for market or the show ring.
The judges came to the unanimous decision that Geraint Davies was “a very worthy winner”.
