Women’s Land Army gallery launched
A TRIBUTE to the forgotten heroines of the Women’s Land Army will be witnessed through the launch of a new gallery in Norfolk.
The Friends of Gressenhall are raising half of the £80,000 required to fund the project, which will be housed at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse - a popular venue for the female veterans’ reunion.
The gallery will tell the story of the Women’s Land Army and Timber Corps through the 20th century and will provide recognition for the work of around 80,000 women who joined the organisation.
Local veteran Freida Feetham says she welcomes the idea of nurturing old stories for future generations.
“We worked so hard and, at the end of the war we didn’t have the recognition that other groups did.
“It is a real pleasure our efforts are now being recognised. The girls are all extremely pleased that their stories are going to be told in this gallery.”
The museum is looking for financial support, but also requires stories, objects, documents or photographs relating to the Women’s Land Army and Timber Corps in Norfolk.
