TV show wants traders to showcase different eras

A new prime-time BBC1 series is looking for butchers, bakers, grocers and their families to live and trade their way through 100 years of retail heritage, allowing viewers to witness the changing face of the British high street.

The chosen participants will relocate to Shepton Mallet, Somerset, where each person will run a shop in the town’s market square. Each week they will run their shop in different eras of British history including the 20s, 30s, WW2 and the 60s.

The retailers will also learn old-time skills, once fashionable recipes and the traditional methods to produce them as well as addressing the challenges of rationing and other regulations.
