Prince Charles sets up rural charity
THE Prince of Wales has launched a new charity to help support Britain’s most impoverished rural areas.
The Prince’s Countryside Fund, which has already attracted pledges of more than £1m from big businesses, will hope to raise millions more to improve the long-term viability of the British countryside and its rural communities.
In particular the Prince said his fund would help ensure a future for small-scale family farms.
The Fund, which already has support large retailers including Waitrose, is the Prince’s 19th charity and continues the future monarch’s life-long commitment to the British countryside and its farmers.
Money will be used to provide grants to agricultural projects, to help reconnect consumers and children with countryside issues and to support farming crisis charities through a dedicated emergency funding stream.
The fund will be formally launched on July 22.
