EFRA backs National Forest
THE National Forest deserved strong commitment from the Government for many years to come in view of its success so far, said Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee chairman Michael Jack.
He was speaking after the publication of a report, issued by EFRA, following the recent Parliamentary Inquiry into The National Forest.
The report has endorsed the progress of the Forest, and states it is successfully delivering ‘tangible environmental, economic and social benefits’ across 200 square miles of the Midlands.
Mr Jack, MP for the Fylde, described The National Forest’s achievements, in combining the afforestation of derelict mining sites with the creation of a new leisure industry which was both biodiverse and sustainable, were remarkable.
“At a challenging time for the economy the project shows just how much forest development can be the catalyst for both job creation and inward investment.”
