Couple’s mouth-wateringly n-ice contract
A YORK farming couple who won the Farmers Guardian search for the Best Farm Entrepreneur last year, have won a contract to supply Waitrose.
Made on the family farm by Lesley and Ian Buxton, Yorvale Dairy Ice Cream is now available in Otley and Harrogate branches of Waitrose, with flavours including vanilla with vanilla pod, caramel honeycomb, double choc chip and strawberry.
The diversification enterprise was founded by Lesley and Ian in 1989 to help use some of the milk produced by the cows on the farm and generate some additional income.
Rapid growth
Since then, the business has grown rapidly and has won a number of accolades, including the Farmers Guardian Best Farm Entrepreneur Award, co-supported by Waitrose.
Lesley Buxton says she is delighted how much the business has evolved and has exceeded their expectations.
“When the business first started, we sold our ice-cream at shows and events from a portable trailer, so we are delighted with how the business has grown since then.
“We have stuck to our values by using traditional methods to produce the ice-cream and making sure our cows have the best standards of health and welfare.”
