Sheep fencing and handling system grants for Irish farmers
A new €8 million (£6.5m) grant scheme for sheep fencing and mobile handling systems will be available to farmers in Ireland from November 1.
Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith said it would complement ‘uplands’ and ‘grasslands’ schemes already announced and help provide a much-needed boost for sheep farmers’ incomes.
IFA sheep committee chairman James Murphy said the package is essential for the recovery of the sheep sector.
The scheme is part of the Rural Development Programme and it is understood it will be at a 40 per cent rate.
He said the sheep sector in Ireland was a very valuable export earner.
