Lamma 2010 gets underway

AS exhibitors set up for the start of Lamma 2010 tomorrow (Wednesday, January 19) James Lane takes a look at some of the kit on show.

New German-made spreaders from Ryetec

Gustrower is not a name many will have heard of, but the German brand manufactures spreaders and chaser bins which are now imported by Ryetec. This is a 8.5cu.m capacity trailed spreader, which unusually has a chain and slat floor rather than belts to help with handling many material types. Ryetec says that these spreaders will distribute fertiliser to 42 metres and lime to 18 metres. Disc drive is hydrostatic and automatically adjusts to any change in PTO speed.

Weighty but neat option

Philip Watkins, better known for cultivation kit, has delved into front weight blocks too. This particular block, fitted to a Claas Xerion 3800, offers a neat solution to the age-old problem of where to keep tools, rags, grease guns and the like. Twin-opening hatches work a linkage which raises a swinging tray allowing access below. Various sizes and weights are available.

Bigger and better reach for Bomford

Bomford’s latest hedgecutter, the Falcon 6.5T forward arm mower with the number designation referring to a 6.5m reach on the machine’s telescopic arm. This puts the cutting head comfortably at the side of the driver cab says Bomford, and is aimed at working on a tractor of 90hp or above. Aimed at both farmers and contractors, the Falcon is also joined by the new Kestrel S hedgecutter and Bomford’s updated back-to-back flails. The ‘S’ denotes power slew on the Kestrel.

Two new spreaders from Joskin

French manufacturer Joskin now offers further models in its muck spreader range with two models – the Siroko and Ferti-Cap. The Siroko is basically narrow and with a high body, and the Ferti-Cap wider but lower for easier loading. Available in 9 to 15-tonne capacities in both guises, the Ferti-Cap can be single or twin-axle but both models are twin vertical beater spreaders. This is a five-metre long 12cu.m 5013/12V model. Both models are aimed at farmer ownership rather than contractor use.

‘Moativator’ helps nematicide application

George Moate of Doncaster has taken the opportunity to launch the latest in its range of bedtillers. Aimed at front-mounting on the planter tractor, the ‘Moativator’, as it has been dubbed, is a single-bed machine and is designed for the fitting of a Horstine nematicide applicator or similar unit. New regulations mean that nematicide application should be ideally carried out with incorporation. George Moate says that various options are available for the machine.

Better breakback from Lely

Lely had lots of new kit on show, including new Splendimo mowers and mower conditioners. A new headstock which breaks back on the nearside of the tractor is said to be more effective if an obstruction occurs near the link arms. The Splendimo now comes in mower only format as the M280, M320 and M360, or in MC280 and MC320 mower conditioner guise. Fixed-chamber balers are also changed in model name; the RP235 being replaced by the RP245. Three-designations are available – Mastercut, Xtracut and Profi. New features include 50mm bearings all round and fibreglass panel which shields the net wrap from rain but allows a clear view from the seat. Lely also announced that it is to offer a five year or 100,000 bale warranty on all belts in its variable range this season.

Precision drill shown by Amazone

First seen at Agritechnica but new in the UK, the Amazone EDX6000 single-grain drill features 8 rows, Xpress metering unit and covers a six-metre width. This is a precision pneumatic drill and the grains are shot into the sowing coulters to give accuracy. A roller places the seed into the furrow. A 3,000-litre hopper for fertiliser and a 550-litre seed unit feature on this machine, with options that include a loading auger. Amazone also showed of its new KE power harrow.

Baby Puma joins Case lineup

Case IH’s Puma range gets another upgrade with the launch of 125hp variant. The Puma 125 features six-cylinder power, and overlaps the Maxxum Multicontroller range. The Puma 125, along with the 140 and 155 stablemates, come with semi-powershift transmission and option of either 40 or 50kph speeds. The Case IH engine management system on the Puma 140 and 155 models gain three and eight per cent more productivity, while top-end Pumas (165 thru 210) achieve 1000rpm pto speed at 1900rpm on the engine.

Higher specification for Stewart trailers

Aberdeenshire-based Stewart Trailers has redesigned its conventional trailer range with new model designations. On show at Lamma is a GX20-24S, which is a 20-tonne trailer with 24cu.m capacity. ‘S’ denotes standard specification. James Stewart says that the range covers from 11 to 20 tonnes. Both 16 and 18-tonne models come in long and standard specification. Standard now is 560/60-22.5 tyres, ABS and load sensing and sprung drawbar. New features include an improved galvanised ladder and four-leaf suspension system, plus a revised roll-over cover system.

Pasture rejuvenation in one pass

Guttler rollers are more and more popular as an alternative to conventional packers or coils, and Wox Agriservices, importers of Guttler into the UK, has now launched an additional product. The Greenmaster is a grassland rejuvenator which features a front ripper board, two rows of 12mm spring tines and a seeder unit. On show was a 7.7-metre unit with matching Guttler press and eight-outlet distribution system. Geoffrey Wox says that the Guttler rings firm in the seed for excellent germination and ensures a one-pass process. Sizes are from three to a massive 12 metres.

Bigger and better bale stacking

Big Bale South has launched the Transtacker, which is derived from the John Walton bale stacker. With an almost complete redesign bar the chassis, Paul Bowles of the company says that the machine features an all-new electronic package, control system and automatic pickup system. Capable of collecting all big bales apart from 70x80s, the Transtacker is available in Standard or Extra specification, the difference being a longer chassis and hence more capacity.
