JCB Groundhog offers easier steering
For those who find steering a bit more of a chore than they would like, JCB has announced that its Groundhog 4x4 utility vehicle can now be specified with the option of electric power assisted steering (EPAS).
The automotive-type steering system is tailored to suit the Groundhog, and it alters its responsiveness according to travel speed. Therefore, when stationary, steering effort is reduced as the unit maximises assistance, but at faster speeds offers less help but still gives the driver a responsive feel says JCB.
JCB also indicates that at low-speed, steering effort is some 75 per cent of the conventional non power-steering equipped Groundhog, and is aimed at reducing operator fatigue as well as increasing manoeuvrability.
The EPAS unit is situated under the dashboard of the Groundhog, and does not affect the original rack and pinion-type steering setup of the machine.
Prices for EPAS option is not yet available.
