New bluetongue vaccines for cattle and sheep
TWO new bluetongue vaccines for cattle and sheep look likely to hit the UK soon.
Merial Animal Health says it has received ‘positive opinions’ from the Committee for Medical Products for Veterinary Use (CVMP) for BTVPUR AlSap 1 (for BTV1) and BTVPUR AlSap 1-8 (for BTV 1 and 8).
The company says that while BTV1 has not been found in the UK, the spread is ‘unpredictable’ and so the additional vaccines will give UK farmers ‘a future insurance policy’.
