Swaledale females top at £3,200 at Hawes
AT the Swaledale Sheepbreeders Association show and sale at Hawes last week females sold to £3,200 with an average of £991, £206 up on last year.
Leading the sale was the show champion and first prize winning ewe from Paul Ewbank, Pateley Bridge, which sold to R.M.S. Livestock, Castle Bolton.
Reserve champion was the winning gimmer shearling from M.W. Skidmore, Weardale, which went to D. Hanson, Whitby, for £1,800. The same vendor’s also sold the second highest price ewe at £2,100 to R. Morris-Eyton, Whicham, Cumbria.
Top priced gimmer shearling was from W.M. Hutchinson, Kirkby Stephen, selling to Neil Richardson, Longnor, Staffordshire at £2,500. Gimmer hoggs also topped at £2,500, this time for one from Paul Hallam, Tintwhistle, Derbyshire, selling to I. Collinson, Bishop Auckland.
