Beef Expo Preview: News in brief
Have a go at auctioneering
If you have ever fancied trying your hand at auctioneering you will have an opportunity at the event in a competition aimed at novice auctioneers.
Competitors will have 90 seconds to impress the judges in an ‘X-Factor’ style competition with the winners receiving a cash trophy in each of the two classes for participants aged 26 and under and those over 26.
Farm shop butchery
A farm shop butchery competition is again being hosted by Eblex, following the success of the 2009 contest. The national farm shop beef butchery competition is open to owners, managers and butchers from farm shops selling English beef.
Entrants will get one hour to prepare and display at least eight cuts and products. For more details or for an entry form visit www.eblex.org.uk or email diane.northrop@eblex .org.uk or call 0870 242 1394.
IBR concerns
Beef producers wanting to discuss their concerns about IBR control should visit the Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health stand says their ruminant veterinary adviser Paul Williams. The company says the starting point for any disease control programme is to blood test the herd, taking advantage of the subsidised national BeefCheck diagnostic service available from certain veterinary practices.
Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health will use the opportunity at Beef Expo to highlight their views on the importance of switching wholesale into the use of marker vaccine for IBR control.

By unlocking the export potential China offers the pig industry, not to mention the red meat sector as a whole, we could gain entry into a marketplace which comprises a fifth of the world’s population.
