UK vets set up clinic in Afghanistan
A UK vet working in war-torn Helmand Province in Afghanistan has told his story of how a team of vets and soldiers is working closely with Afghan farmers to improve the health of their livestock.
In an interview with the County Channel, Army vet Captain Miles Malone tells his story as he and his colleagues set up veterinary clinics and a vaccination programme for local farmers.
A key part of the hearts and minds battle to win over ordinary Aghans, the pioneering new vet clinic, which operates in desert communities and villages, offers local farmers and shepherds the opportunity to vaccinate their animals.
Capt. Malone said: “In two and a half months this is my third trip out to treat the local livestock.
“A lot of these animals have never been treated for parasites before so what we are doing directly improves the quality of the milk, and meat that animals are providing.
“Improving the village farmers’ diet and standard of living has a bearing on their own health and that of their community.”
