Sheep help to promote General Election
RURAL councils will use sheep in a novel campaign to get voters flocking to the polling booths this year.
Councillors in Worcestershire will urge the public to ‘ewes their vote’ rather than stay at home on election day.
They hope their new slogan will ram the message home to the two thirds of voters that normally fail to vote in the county. The campaign will also encourage young people to get on the electoral register when they turn 18.
Amanda de Warr, democratic services manager at Wychavon District Council, told the Worcester News: “We are always looking for different ways of encouraging people to vote. We want to urge people not to follow the flock, but to ‘ewes’ their vote instead.”
Worcestershire councils will use a sheep design on buses, public buildings and notice boards across the county up until the local and national elections on May 6.
